When we combine Fleet Foxes with Manjula

In this post i will give my response to a task from todays english class: Find a “Seattle-song” that represent Manjula from Where´d you go Bernadette.

First of all, i have to admit that it was quite hard finding something that would fit with a character that we barely know. Therefore i had to reach quite a bit, and i ended up finding the song “helplessness Blues” by “Fleet Foxes” where some elements fit with Manjula´s character.

As i explained in a prior post, Manjula is a unique and highly appreciated personal assistant for Bernadette. Therefore i though that the very first two lines of the song fits in:

“I was raised up believing I was somehow unique”
“Like a snowflake distinct among snowflakes, unique in each way you can see”

I know it´s a bit of reaching, and there is no direct link between the lines and Manjula, but i still think that Manjula can be written into the context, as a unique worker, working hard for the “chief” to succeed. Another example of this, is the last line of the first verse.

A functioning cog in some great machinery serving something beyond me

I think that this line actually explains Manjula´s role better. She is a trustworthy worker, working on a poor salary, and still doing her very best to satisfy her client.
